About Rock 'n Java
A Brief History
Rock 'n Java opened its doors in August 1995, for breakfast lunch and dinner. Lisa's original idea for a vegetarian / healthy restaurant was a new concept of dining in Cozumel. With her 20-plus years of food & beverage experience, Lisa knew what the island needed most. Focusing on locals looking for an alternative to lard based cooking, an emphasis on salads, great coffee and homemade desserts, Lisa opened the first Rock 'n Java in a small location on AR Salas. She provided a great, inexpensive place to eat in a clean, comfortable environment.
Rock 'n Java quickly outgrew it's location and moved to the ocean front the following year. In response to higher traffic, with it's new ocean view and hungry tourists in nearby hotels, the restaurant added other types of cuisine to it's menu, including a 100% USDA Angus Burger, but continues to offer healthier choices such as our famous homemade veggie burger and grilled fish tacos. Our amazing pastery selection is baked in-house daily.
The Noodle Bar
Lisa and Ernesto
In August of 2008 Lisa partnered with Ernesto Alvarez and introduced another new concept to the island. The Rock 'n Java Thai Noodle Bar. Using the same ideas, serving up fresh meats, seafood and vegetables, sauces made from scratch and still a great meal for under 10 bucks, the Noodle Bar quickly caught fire. The Thai Noodle Bar features drink special such as Lychee Martinis, Tamarind Margaritas and Pomogranate Mojitos.

In The Community
The same year R&J opened Lisa was recruited by her then business partner Karla Porter to help raise funds to start a Humane Society on the island. Thanks to a small group of volunteers, The Humane Society is still going strong today under the direction of President Monica Velasco. R&J's shelves hold an extensive library of reading material that can be bought and traded, with all funds going to the Cozumel Humane Society. You can also find a great souvineer to take home to whomever is taking care of your pets by purchasing a Humane Society of Cozumel T-shirt. Look us up at www.humanecozumel.org.
Give Lisa a call if you would like to volunteer for the day.
